WASHINGTON — The drug industry is preparing for an onslaught of lawsuits as they argue that Viagra has failed to help patients manage their erectile dysfunction.
In the first of what will be a series of lawsuits in the U. S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the drug industry has filed a lawsuit against Pfizer Inc. and other drug makers, alleging that the company failed to warn patients of possible risks associated with the drug Viagra. The suit, filed in October, claims that Pfizer and other drug makers knew or should have known that the drug was not approved for use in the United States, and that the use of Viagra could increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
The case is the largest in its class-action lawsuit, and is the largest in the class action, which is a class-action lawsuit seeking to prevent the U. Food and Drug Administration from approving or requiring Pfizer to manufacture and distribute the drug Viagra.
